How to Choose a Built-In Skimmer

When you are shopping around for a new way to filter your pool, one of the things that you might want to consider is getting a built-in skimmer. There are a number of different types of skimmers on the market, and it can be confusing when you are trying to choose which one will work best in your pool. This is especially true if you have a smaller pool or if your pool isn’t located near a main sewer line. In order to help you choose the best built-in skimmer for your needs, here are some tips that will help you narrow down your choices.

First, consider your pool’s dimensions. If your pool is very small, or you don’t have much room to cover your pool, then a Einbauskimmer may not be a good choice for you. Otherwise, if your pool is too large, or you don’t have the room for a big bulky skimmer, you will want to look at other options. However, some larger pools can benefit from built-in skimmers, because of the extra filtering system that they can provide. Keep in mind, however, that built-in skimmers can also make a pool more dirty than it would be without one.

Next, you will need to decide whether or not you are going with a remote skimmer, or a manual one. Remote skimmers are usually battery powered and run by manually moving the brush across the water. Manual ones require that you watch the skimmer to make sure that it is sweeping downward and can come in handy if you need to clean more water than you can watch. Either one will be fine, depending on how much water you need to filter out at once.

Once you have decided on which type of skimmer you need, it is time to check out the price. Built-in skimmers can range in price greatly. The higher the number of filters that you buy, the more money you will spend. In general, the more filters that you buy, the higher the price. It will depend upon how big your pool is, and how often you will be cleaning it.

One of the final decisions that you need to make is about which type of pump you will use. There are two different types of pumps that are available. A power wand type of pump will require that you have a pool pump, and some sort of water hose to get the water through. A gravity-based pump will require a water line and a pump that has a gravity wand.

There are many reasons why you might consider installing a skimmer in your pool, but if you can’t afford to purchase a built-in unit, or just don’t feel comfortable with the decision, there are plenty of other options. Choose the one that is best suited to your budget and the type of pool that you have. You can always move your skimmer laterally, or further from the pool water, if needed.
